KOMBUCHA - MATERIAL FUTURES

In collaboration with RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) Vietnam, we HART are proud to introduce the Sustainable and Wellbeing Project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at addressing the issue of Plastic Pollution through Sustainable Means. This Project focuses on the growth of biomaterial from Kombucha, a fermented tea that has the potential to revolutionise the way we create sustainable alternatives to plastic.

Why Kombucha?

Kombucha offers numerous benefits as a Biomaterial. It is renewable, biodegradable, and can be grown using minimal resources. By harnessing the power of Kombucha, we can create a range of sustainable products that have a significantly lower environmental impact compared to traditional plastic.

Process of Making Kombucha Bacterial Cellulose Biomaterial

Our Sustainable Process

At Hart Upcycle, we have developed a meticulous and sustainable process for growing biomaterial from Kombucha. It involves cultivating a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast, known as SCOBY, which transforms tea and sugar into a cellulose-based material. This material can then be moulded into various shapes and forms, serving as a Sustainable Alternative to Plastic.

The Challenge: Plastic Pollution in Vietnam

Vietnam, like many nations, faces a formidable challenge in the form of plastic pollution. Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste find their way into our landfills and waterways, leaving a detrimental impact on the environment. This crisis demands innovative solutions that resonate with global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Community Engagement in Bio-Based Innovation

We firmly believe that tackling plastic pollution requires collective action and community engagement. Our project seeks to empower local communities by involving them in the exciting realm of bio-based innovation. Through hands-on workshops, research, and collaboration, we aim to inspire and equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to create meaningful change.
